My favorite 1-star reviews of my books
Do you enjoy reading one-star reviews of your favorite books?
Dear Book Lover,
okay, I’ll admit I didn’t know what to write today because I’m in-between releases, it’s still a month before Thomas’s book, The Love Algorithm, comes out, and I have little other news except that Not in a Billion Years is on sale in the US for 99cents (this is the first book in the True Love series if you want to catch up before Thomas’s book comes out) and that The Love Algorithm is available to request on Netgalley—if you run a book review blog or a bookish social media account, you can request it, US and UK.
So today, I thought I’d share this trend on social media that I’ve been loving of posting low-star reviews of your favorite books or picking books based on bad reviews. I looked at a few of my novels on Goodreads and some reviews made me chuckle. Here they are:
Even though it was a fun read, some parts felt almost word by word too similar to Ali Hazelwood's books.
I’m taking this as a compliment because I love Ali Hazelwood. Also, considering this book was originally published in 2019 (two years before Ali’s debut) I can sleep easy at night.
Not in a Billion Years (only 99c in the US for a limited time):
I’ve never done a hate-read, so I went with it.
‘That, Miss Sass, I’m afraid, has earned you a visit from the tickle monster.’
Most disturbing line I’ve read in a long time.
I don’t know, these two just made me laugh.
Only reason I didn’t DNF is because I was stuck on a plane and had nothing else downloaded on my kindle
I’m proud it still was better than ALL the movies on the plane. Unless it was a short flight?
Entertaining enough, and an ok holiday read, but it’s one that you’d leave on a shelf, train station, airport for someone else to pick up. A nice story, but nothing more.
I found this idea of abandoning the book somewhere for others to find (and maybe hate-read since she rated it one star) somewhat poetic.
I also think the FMC having so many animals (10) and thousands of cover-ripped-off books (to repair and sell - she's a doctor!) is odd.
The books aren’t really cover-ripped, just saved before pulping. Anyway, I love rom-coms with book nerds and plenty of pets. A review like this one would make me pick up the book in no time… This wasn’t the most scathing line in the review but the others were too much of a spoiler.
This definitely had a 90's rom-com feel and was reminiscent of My Best Friend's Wedding… I also love Taylor Swift as much as the next girl and I'm a big Swiftie but she was mentioned 11 times in 277 pages.
I’m a Swiftie and there’s no denying it, also love 90's rom-coms. If I saw this review for another book, I’d pick it up so fast.
Friend Zone (free in ebook or with Kobo Plus):
At 15% I was about to stop reading it. But there’s something in this book that wants you to know what’s about to happen with the characters.
So she was hooked against her will—I say good job to me ;)
I hate everyone
This series has 8 main characters (including the only real bad boy I’ve ever written, David Williams, and she hated them all? Ouch…)
